CFO and controllership

A finance function that reports to a board, a lender or a parent

Kept books are not enough once someone else reads your numbers. You need a month that closes on a date, figures that agree with each other and with the bank, a pack a director can read, and someone who can explain it and act on it. That is what Finac’s Complex and CFO engagements provide.

Controllership runs the function. CFO support adds judgement.

Controllership is the finance function run to a standard. CFO support is judgement applied to capital, pricing, lenders, investors and the plan. The Complex band is the first; the CFO band is both.

Who needs it

Five situations where kept books stop being enough

Funded companies

Investors expect a monthly update and a quarterly board pack, and will run diligence again at the next round.

Companies with a lender

A term loan or working-capital limit whose bank wants MIS, stock statements and covenant certificates on its dates.

Groups

Two or more entities, states or countries, where consolidation, intercompany and cross-charge have to be right.

Foreign-owned subsidiaries

Reporting to a parent in another currency and another format. See India entry.

₹10 crore to ₹100 crore

Companies that need a finance leader before they can justify hiring one.

What it costs

What it costs, and why

The Complex band runs ₹40,000 to ₹75,000 a month and the CFO band from ₹75,000 to ₹2,00,000 and above, excluding GST, set on scope: entities, states, reporting depth, lender and investor obligations, and the partner hours retained.

An in-house CFO in a metro costs several times more. A fractional CFO without a finance function under them produces opinions without numbers. Finac prices the two together.

Questions

Frequently asked

What is the difference between controllership and CFO support?

Controllership is running the finance function to a standard: close, controls, reporting, compliance. CFO support is judgement on top of it: capital, pricing, lenders, investors, the plan. Finac provides both. The CFO band includes retained partner hours each month.

Do you attend board meetings?

Yes, in the CFO band. Finac presents the pack and attends board or investor meetings. It does not take a board seat.

Can you prepare CMA data and stock statements for our bank?

Yes. Lender MIS, stock and book-debt statements, covenant tracking and CMA data are part of the Complex band.

We are raising a round. What do you do?

Investor-ready books and reconciliations, the data room, the actuals in the financial model, the cap table reconciled to filings, diligence responses, and the post-round filings: PAS-3, MGT-14, and FC-GPR where the investor is foreign.

Who will we deal with?

The scoping flow routes Complex and CFO results straight to the founder, Anil Sharma, and the first conversation is with him. Day to day you have a dedicated team; the partner hours in the CFO band are his.
